I personally love my hair, I think its just another way to artistically show yourself off to the world. In the last few years I have rebonded, bleached ( twice! ), permed and have had a Brazilian blowout. On top of that i have dyed my hair so many times that i am actually not sure what my natural hair colour looks like any more. I've had red, black, brown, copper and so many other colours! These guidelines have kept my hair healthy the last few years, no matter how much i damaged it.
No heat
♥ What to do in the shower ♥
Shampoo & Conditioners
Even if your hair isnt in desperate need of intense repair i would recommend using a shampoo and conditioner that is designed for that. This will help give you hair more nutrition, and its like a breathe of fresh air for hair that has undergone intense chemicals.
Hair Treatments
I use a deep conditioning hair mask as a replacement to regular conditioner for the first seven days of a month. When my hair is extremely dry i can go through a whole pot in one week! To put your hair through more repair you can sleep with the deep conditioner in your hair. Just make your hair wet, put in some treatment and hop right into bed!
♥ After Shower ♥
Be Gentle
When you come out of the shower DO NOT twist and rub and do anything aggressive to your hair. Your hair is most vulnerable when it is wet !! Try not to comb it as much your hair but if you have to use a wide tooth comb or a paddle brush, under no circumstances use a fine tooth comb ok ?!
No heat
Also avoid anything that applies heat to your hair. I personally do not use blow dryers or straighteners unless there's a special occasion ( a first date is totally acceptable ). Just comb your hair and let it airdry. If you do need to have dry hair use the blow dryer on the coldest air setting and lowest wind speed. This should help prevent most of the damage. Don't forget to use a heat protecting spray!
♥ Going out ♥
Try to avoid the sun as much as possible. I know we all need to get some Vitamin D but when the sun is too harsh it will only damage your hair AND skin! So when you go out try to stay in the shadow or wear a cap or hat. Especially when you go to the beach don't forget to be super careful with your hair!
♥ Other Tips ♥
1. Instead of buying hair treatments you can use mayonnaise, honey or avocados
2. Take vitamins&minerals that promote healthy hair such as vitamin A, B & E
3. Drink lots of water and have a healthy diet
4. Cut your hair when it is completely lifeless. If it is beyond repairing, keeping
it will only damage your healthy hair.
Hey! :D Deep conditioners really worked on my hair! It reduced the "dead hairs" rising out from my scalp. (: Thanks for the tips!
